The biggest question of all, how do I find God? The bible has many scriptures that answer this exact question I've listed 6 below as you read them you will notice a common theme taking shape….
Proverbs 8:17 (KJV) "I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me"
Jeremiah 29:13 (KJV)"And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart"
Deuteronomy 4:29(KJV) "But if from thence thou shalt seek the LORD thy God, thou shalt find him, if thou seek him with all thy heart and with all thy soul"
2 Chronicles 11:16 (KJV) And after them out of all the tribes of Israel such as set their hearts to seek the LORD God of Israel came to Jerusalem, to sacrifice unto the LORD God of their fathers
2 Chronicles 15:12 (KJV)They entered into a covenant to seek the LORD, the God of their fathers, with all their heart and soul.
2 Chronicles 14:3-4 (KJV) For he took away the altars of the strange gods, and the high places, and brake down the images, and cut down the groves: And commanded Judah to seek the LORD God of their fathers, and to do the law and the commandment.
Seek, Seek and Seek.. in each of those passages God has instructed us to seek him and if we do the result is that we will find him. But he doesn't just say simply seek, but rather to "seek with all our hearts and with all our souls" and you will notice in 2 chronicles 14:4 that not only did he say seek but also commanded Judah to do (obey) the law and the commandment..
Here's one of my favourite passages,
Proverbs 2:1-5 (NIV)
My son, if you accept my words and store up my commands within you turning your ear to wisdom and applying your heart to understanding and if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure then you will understand the fear of the LORD and find the knowledge of God
You will note that in that passage if we will "Look for it as we would look for silver and hidden treasure",than we will understand the fear of the LORD and find knowledge of God. Again as in the other passages the key theme is to SEEK him, to look actively for him, here we are given the example to search like we would hidden treasure..
it's interesting how he uses that ..God gives us all these clues, but not just clues but also a peak at what it will be like when we do it.. I can tell you from experience that God IS LIKE finding hidden treasure.. it's so what he reveals to you, but it's not until you do what he says that the hidden understanding in his words are shown.
First comes obedience than comes reward..not the other way around, faith is built upon doing, upon acting on what he says, at first it's a struggle to just open the bible and read, I would say the biggest battle of all is fighting past the doubt and disbelief, that never ending feeling that it just doesnt work, that somehow you are excluded,
it may work for everyone else but just not for me… Listen closely my friend that is a LIE from the devil himself to stop you from finding the truth…to get you to give up, to keep you enslaved . But if you are diligent and determined the moment WILL come when suddenly you are AWARE of him.. suddenly a passage lights up in your mind for you.. you are not only aware that God is real, but that he is TALKING to you.
Insight and wisdom are his gifts, God is wisdom God is insight. .. Chase him!!!! if you wish to bake a chocolate cake but have never done it before you will likely get a recipe from somewhere to help you.Now if the recipe says add 3 eggs and one cup of coco and you decide to add everything but that -than in all probibility your cake will not turn out. But if you instead do exactly what the recipe says being careful to add ALL the ingredients than your chocolate cake will be a great success!
If you TRULY wish to find the almighty God than you must do EVERYTHING he says to do, not just one or two things and than wonder why it didnt work, it is by the atoning blood of Jesus at calvary that one first comes to God and than it is by OBEDIENCE to his will that one grows to know him.
Step by step
- Accept Christs Sacrifice for your sins.
- Sincerly repent and turn from sin to God
- Seek him with all your heart and soul as you would look for silver or hidden treasure.
- OBEY ALL HIS COMMANDS to the best of your ability while you do the above three
And the result will be the most exciting experience of your entire life!
It is by humbleness… it is by TRUE sincerity that one comes to him , it is not by pride, not by a false sense of ego…open your heart to him, we have all fallen short, all of us buried in a mountain of sin forever forsaken, forever lost. There is nothing you could have done that he doesn't allready know about, but more importantly there is NOTHING you could have done that the price has not already been paid for. Gods mercy is a free gift to all who would accept it, but you must choose to receive that gift he won't force you…..
